Matchday lunch auction at Moseley RFC raises £13,000 for British troops who served in Afghanistan
The Afghanistan Veterans Community (AVC) support network was the chosen charity at today’s “Mud, Sweat and Cheers” match-day lunch auction at Moseley Rugby Club.
Attended by 300 people, the event, which raised more than £13,000, was staged by Birmingham’s One Thousand Trades Group together with principal sponsor KP Law, the specialist group action legal firm.

Jonny Ball, a military veteran who co-founded the AVC, said: “The AVC has been established by veterans to support all those who served in Afghanistan and their families and ensure their stories are not forgotten. We are so grateful for everyone’s support at this event, including the One Thousand Trades Group and KP Law.”

Backed by KP Law, the legal firm seeking justice for British troops
Tom Longstaff, partner and head of product liability at KP Law, said: “At KP Law we have huge respect for our Armed Forces men and women, whose sacrifice and bravery should never be forgotten. It is an honour to support the Afghanistan Veterans’ Community.”
KP Law is currently bringing a group action lawsuit in the UK courts against 3M, which supplied British troops with allegedly faulty combat earplugs for more than 20 years, resulting in many men and women suffering hearing loss and damage. KP Law is seeking justice and compensation for everyone impacted.

“We must remember their stories and their sacrifice” – Paul Cadman
Paul Cadman, CEO of the One Thousand Trades Group, said: “The power of getting a great bunch of people together to support a great cause never ceases to amaze me.
“The AVC does incredible work supporting the men and women who served King and Country over many years in Afghanistan. Many of them bear the physical and mental scars. It’s so important we remember them, their stories and the sacrifices they have made.”

Thanks from Armed Forces Minister
Al Carns, Armed Forces Minister and MP for Birmingham Selly Oak, said: “I want to extend my thanks to Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club and the One Thousand Trades Group for their outstanding support of our Armed Forces.
“It’s vital that organisations like [the AVC] continue to show the value and contribution of our Armed Forces – not only while they serve, but also after they leave, when their skills, experience and leadership can make such a difference in our communities.”
The home side today faced Blackheath in the English National League 1. Final score: 32 – 19 to Moseley.
