Birmingham City today broke the League One points record with a 4-0 victory over Mansfield.
The win also saw the Blues go the whole season unbeaten at home in the league.
Goals today from Keshi Anderson, Willum Willumsson, Kieran Dowell and Tomoki Iwata bagged all three points taking the season tally to a record 105 from 44 games.
Euphoric scenes unfolded on the final whistle at a sold-out St Andrew’s @ Knighthead as the Blues lifted the League One trophy.
“It’s an incredible achievement,” said coach Chris Davies.
“I really have to reiterate that. I don’t want people to start taking this for granted and thinking that we just won another game.
“We just got the most points any team in the history of English football have got in this league. It’s an incredible achievement.”
With two league games still to play, the Blues could still break the EFL points record of 106 points by Reading in 2005-06.
“We go to win every game,” he said.
“We’ve got two games to go, two tough away games, but until that whistle blows at Cambridge, we’re not going to stop – we’ll see where how far we can get.”
“This will resonate far beyond the pitch”
Attending today was Blues fan Professor Paul Cadman, CEO of the One Thousand Trades Group, who said: “This is a phenomenal achievement that will resonate far beyond the pitch.
“This victory embodies the relentless determination and spirit of the club, bringing well-deserved joy to the players, staff, and, most importantly, the devoted fans who have stood by through every high and low.”
