BGF – the most active growth capital investor in the UK & Ireland – has strengthened its Midlands team with the appointment of Tom Herbert as Investor.
Tom will be based across BGF’s Nottingham and Birmingham offices, responsible for originating and evaluating investment opportunities, executing transactions, and supporting management teams on their long-term growth journeys.
He joins BGF from KPMG, where he worked for 11 years. Most recently, Tom spent five years in KPMG’s Midlands corporate finance team, advising on sell-side and buy-side transactions for both owner-managed and private equity-backed businesses. He worked on transactions across multiple sectors including technology, media, business services, and consumer products – focusing on businesses operating across East and West Midlands. Prior to this, Tom qualified as a Chartered Accountant.
Seb Saywood, partner at BGF in the Midlands, said: “Tom is an excellent addition to our Midlands team, bringing valuable sector and high-growth advisory experience to our regional proposition. He will play an important part in helping founder-led businesses realise their potential.”
Last month, BGF surpassed £5bn in investments, marking a significant milestone in its mission to support the regional growth economy across the UK & Ireland. In the Midlands, BGF has committed to invest a further £300m over the next five years, underlining its confidence in the depth of opportunity across the region and continued focus on supporting ambitious businesses to scale.
Tom commented: “The most rewarding part of my career has been working closely with owner-managers and founders – understanding their ambitions, helping them navigate key strategic decisions and supporting them as they build exceptional businesses over the long term. Joining BGF feels like a natural next step in continuing on that journey.
“BGF’s regional investment model was also a major attraction. Having a dedicated team in the Midlands means we can build genuine partnerships with founders and management teams, combining local knowledge with national value creation resources. I believe proximity matters, and being embedded in the region enables us to better understand the businesses, entrepreneurs and opportunities that are driving economic growth across the Midlands.”
In 2026, BGF was recognised as the most active investor in the UK’s 245 fastest-growing private equity-backed companies, according to the Real Deals Private Equity Value Report, in association with BDO, the international accountancy and business advisory firm.
