Clarity wants to turn caffeine into themost powerful performance tool in your arsenal

The UK-built performance app is making caffeine measurable, helping people understand when to use the world’s most consumed psychoactive drug and when it could be working against them.

You’ve probably used caffeine to improve your performance your entire adult life.

But you’ve probably been using it blind.

You track your sleep, heart rate, workouts, calories, steps and recovery. Then you drink coffee, take a pre-workout or open an energy drink with almost no visibility over what happens next.

Clarity was built to change that.

The UK-built performance app turns caffeine from an invisible stimulant into a measurable performance variable, showing users how their caffeine intake builds and declines throughout the day so they can use it deliberately around performance, sleep and recovery.

Because caffeine does not create energy.

It stimulates the central nervous system and reduces the perception of fatigue, in part by blocking adenosine signalling. That can make caffeine an incredibly effective performance aid.

But the caffeine doesn’t disappear when the obvious buzz does.

Use it without understanding dose and timing and the same tool you reached for to improve performance can still be active hours later, potentially interfering with the sleep and recovery your performance depends on.

That’s the problem Clarity founder Joe Griffin became obsessed with solving.

“Caffeine is one of the most powerful performance tools most of us have access to, but we’re using it almost completely blind,” said Joe.

“We obsess over training, nutrition, sleep and recovery and then throw hundreds of milligrams of a psychoactive stimulant into the equation without tracking it.

“Clarity changes that. Once caffeine becomes measurable, you can stop guessing and start using it deliberately.”

Joe is a veteran and self-taught software engineer from Worcestershire who founded Clarity after years of trying to optimise his own performance.

The more he focused on performance, the more obvious the contradiction became. He was using caffeine to perform better while having almost no visibility over how much he was consuming, how it accumulated throughout the day or how much could remain active as he approached sleep.

He realised caffeine wasn’t the problem.

Using it blind was.

Clarity was built as the performance layer between caffeine consumption and the person consuming it.

Users log their caffeine intake and Clarity models how it declines over time, giving them a live visualisation of their estimated caffeine level throughout the day.

Instead of caffeine disappearing from consideration once the drink is finished, Clarity keeps it visible.

Not something to quit. Something to understand, control and ultimately use for performance.

“My mission with Clarity is to revolutionise the world’s relationship with caffeine,” said Joe.

“We’ve spent years making every other part of performance measurable. Caffeine should be no different.

“I want Clarity to turn caffeine from something people consume reactively when they’re tired into one of the most deliberate tools in their performance arsenal.”

Clarity is built independently in the UK and is available for iPhone through Apple’s App Store.
