Housebuilder signs up as a patron of the charity

Affordable housing developer Keon Homes has become the latest patron of The Way Youth Zone charity in Wolverhampton.

The firm pledged funding and volunteering support to help more than 160 young people each year.

Keon Homes, which is delivering hundreds of homes across the city as part of a £1bn City of Wolverhampton Council framework, said it will provide STEM, employability and wellbeing support to children and young adults through the partnership.

The programme will address youth unemployment, high NEET rates and mental health challenges, with particular focus on tackling stigma around wellbeing in male-dominated sectors.

Jo Mann, people, engagement and social impact partner at Keon Homes, said: “We’re committed to having a positive impact on the communities we operate in, and Wolverhampton is home to some of our largest projects and home to a lot of our team.”

Plans include site visits, mentoring sessions and construction workshops delivered at The Way, giving young people a direct insight into careers in the sector.

Rob Mallett, corporate partnerships manager at The Way, said: “Many of the young people who will be supported by Keon Homes live in areas where its affordable homes are being built, so it’s going to be a really powerful local partnership.”

The Way Youth Zone, which celebrated its tenth anniversary recently, has welcomed more than 21,000 young people through its doors, recording nearly 395,000 visits across a decade of activity.
