Public invited to vote on name ahead of Birmingham 2027 event
London Northwestern Railway (LNR) has announced a partnership with the Invictus Games Foundation to launch a specially branded train in support of the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027.
It is inviting the public to vote on what it should be called.
The Games, to be hosted at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre and Sandwell Aquatics Centre in July 2027, are expected to attract tens of thousands of spectators from around the world.
To mark one year to go until the games, LNR and sister operator West Midlands Railway have joined forces with the foundation to give passengers a say in the train’s name.
Voting opens for four potential names
Four options are on the table: The Spirit of Invictus, The William Ernest Henley, Unconquered, and Master of My Fate. Voting closes today, Sunday June 14, with the winning name to be revealed next month.
Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director at LNR and West Midlands Railway, said: “The Invictus Games coming back to the UK is a hugely important prospect for Birmingham and the wider region.
“To celebrate the official one-year countdown, we will unveil a specially branded train, and we’re inviting the public to help us name it.”
Rob Owen, chief executive of the Invictus Games Foundation, said: “We are delighted to be working with London Northwestern Railway on this collaboration and are extremely grateful for the opportunity to showcase our charity as the train makes its way across the region.”
The games will feature 550 wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans from 25 nations competing across 12 adaptive sports.
