Walsall-based S Jones Containers Ltd was tonight named “Manufacturing Innovator of the Year” at the 2025 Innovation Awards.

The prestigious accolade was announced after a year-long process of voting and judging at a finale awards dinner attended by 500 people at Eastside Rooms in Birmingham.

‘The tech we’re putting in these is actually working’

Andy Nicholls, head of conversions at S Jones Containers, reacting to the win, said: “It’s been such a long journey. It’s amazing, really, to get the recognition and see that the technology that we’re putting in these is actually working. To get recognised for it is amazing.”

For over 40 years, S Jones Containers has been at the forefront of transforming shipping containers into innovative, bespoke conversions.

The company’s work spans plant rooms, battery storage units, workshops and mobile laboratories, each project delivered entirely in-house by expert engineers. With no outsourcing or compromises, every detail is carefully handled from start to finish.

Andy added: “Over the last probably eight years, we’ve been working towards lithium battery storage in shipping containers. In the last year, in particular, we’ve really heightened that to make it more affordable, so they’re not 120 odd grand, but they’re just affordable.”

Innovation Awards are open to individuals, businesses and organisations across the UK

Dr Richard Fallon, CEO of the Technology Supply Chain (TSC) membership organisation, which runs the annual Innovation Awards, said: “Congratulations to S Jones Containers Ltd. We had more entries than ever before this year, and the competition for each category was stronger than it’s ever been.

“Each winner can be justifiably proud and can look forward to ongoing support from the 5,000-member TSC network as they chart their course to future success.”

The Innovation Awards recognise, celebrate and reward the businesses, organisations and individuals who are dedicated to innovation.

The awards are open to innovative individuals, businesses and organisations – including universities, local councils and catapults – based in the UK.
