Northanger Abbey comes to The Commandery Gardens this July

Worcester Repertory Company has announced the full cast for its upcoming outdoor production of Northanger Abbey, taking place this July at The Commandery Gardens.

The production marks the company’s 19th consecutive outdoor theatre performance at the venue and promises a playful take on Jane Austen’s coming-of-age novel.

Charlie Fraser-Swarbrick will take the lead role of Catherine Morland, returning to the company after portraying Marianne Dashwood in last year’s well-received production of Sense and Sensibility.

Joining her are returning cast members Julia Bentley, playing Eleanor Tilney and Mrs Allen, and Nate Harter, taking on the roles of John Thorpe and Henry Tilney.

Alex Whitworth will portray Isabella Thorpe and Mrs Morland, while George Ormerod plays James Morland, General Tilney and Frederick Tilney.

A gothic twist on a beloved classic

The production is adapted and directed by Paul Milton, who also helmed last year’s Sense and Sensibility.

Austen’s story follows the imaginative Catherine Morland, whose love of Gothic horror novels leads her into a world of mystery when she is invited to stay at Northanger Abbey.

Audiences are encouraged to bring a picnic to enjoy the outdoor setting, with chairs available to hire from The Commandery or visitors are welcome to bring their own.

Tickets start at £10.50 for under-25s and £21 for adults, with a Flexi Ticket priced between £15.50 and £23 also available. A £3.50 transaction fee applies to all bookings.
