Birmingham-based e-learning firm FlashAcademy was tonight named “Technology Innovator of the Year” at the 2025 Innovation Awards.

The company, which specialises in helping EAL (English as an additional language) learners, received the prestigious accolade, after a year-long process of voting and judging, at a finale awards dinner attended by 500 people at Eastside Rooms in Birmingham.

Veejay Liongiah, CEO of FlashAcademy, reacting to news of the win, said: “It’s huge to win this award. Huge credit has to go to the team that’s behind Flash Academy and everything they’re doing every day on the mission that we’re on.”

FlashAcademy is dedicated to breaking down language barriers and helping learners thrive. Trusted by more than 2,400 schools, colleges, charities, and businesses, the platform has supported more than 700,000 learners worldwide.

As the UK’s number one EAL (English as an additional language) solution FlashAcademy combines engaging digital lessons, adaptive assessments, and curriculum-aligned resources across 48 home languages.

Teachers benefit from AI-assisted marking that saves up to 150 hours annually and streamlined dashboards that evidence progress, while learners build confidence, communication skills, and access to the curriculum.

‘Shining a light on the EAL (English as an additional language) challenge across the UK’

“Hopefully this award shines a light on the EAL (English as an additional language) challenge across the UK and the teachers and the pupils that are impacted by it,” added Veejay.

“And hopefully it helps us on our journey to continuing to scale the impact that we’re having right across the country.”

FlashAcademy shared the award with joint winners, the Local Land Charges Programme, part of HM Land Registry.

Innovation Awards are open to individuals, businesses and organisations across the UK

Dr Richard Fallon, CEO of the Technology Supply Chain (TSC) membership organisation, which runs the annual Innovation Awards, said: “Congratulations to FlashAcademy. We had more entries than ever before this year, and the competition for each category was stronger than it’s ever been.

“Each winner can be justifiably proud and can look forward to ongoing support from the 5,000-member TSC network as they chart their course to future success.”

The Innovation Awards recognise, celebrate and reward the businesses, organisations and individuals who are dedicated to innovation.

The awards are open to innovative individuals, businesses and organisations – including universities, local councils and catapults – based in the UK.
