West Midlands energy consultancy strengthens its leadership structure after three decades of growth

West Midlands energy consultancy Pro Enviro has appointed its first non-executive director, marking a significant milestone in the company’s 30-year history.

David Kidney joins the board bringing a rare combination of legal, political and energy sector experience, having worked as a solicitor, a Member of Parliament and a minister in the Department of Energy and Climate Change. He has also served as chief executive of the UK Public Health Register.

Managing director Nersi Salehi, who co-founded the business with Diane Salehi more than three decades ago, said the appointment reflected the company’s continued growth and its commitment to stronger governance.

“Diane and I started Pro Enviro more than 30 years ago with a simple aim: to help businesses use energy more wisely,” he said.

“We never imagined that our small consultancy would grow into the company it is today.”

Evolving to meet the challenge

Salehi said the decision to appoint a non-executive director was driven by the increasing complexity of the business and its expanding role in supporting regional decarbonisation.

“We now have a larger team, more complex projects and a wider role in supporting the region’s decarbonisation efforts,” he said.

“Appointing our first non-executive director is an important step in strengthening how we lead and manage the business for the long term.”

Kidney had already been working closely with Pro Enviro as a consultant before taking up the new role.

The company, based in Rugby in Warwickshire, said his ability to provide an independent, constructive perspective made him well placed to support its directors as the business continues to grow.
